Re: Some Clever Reference's Customs (Current Project: 3D Printable Console Rooms)

How goes the 80's console room project? I've back-burnered mine since I've got a bunch of other stuff to work on (well, and I figured there was no sense duplicating your efforts) but I'd love to see if you've made any further progress. I've got a nearly print-ready 8th Doctor console room set comple...

Wow! That's impressive. Are the transparent parts printed, too? As far as I know, they're clear resin SLA printed. http://www.strangecult.com/sa/who_toys/WIP160.JPG I'm painting some of my own figures from the past year in-between frantically finishing up the kid's Christmas stuff. I picked up this...

http://www.strangecult.com/sa/who_toys/McGANN_TARDIS_painted.jpg For those who aren't following along on Facebook, here's the Google Drive link to the pre-beta McGann Console . I say pre-Beta because this is a mashup of two different designs by Jeffrey Fink and Smappy, with a tiny bit of extra fidd...

Re: Bluehinter's Free 3-D printable 5" scale figures & vehicles (Got a printer? Print your own customs!)

The Kroton came out more or less okay. The biggest disappointment was the pincers at the end of the hands which are just too small to print with sufficient detail, (I'm going to try to give these ones a once-over with the soldering gun to try to clean them up a little bit, but they still won't look ...

Here's what half a day in meshmixer will get you. (Working version is in blue) http://www.strangecult.com/sa/who_toys/WIP153.JPG http://www.strangecult.com/sa/who_toys/WIP154.JPG The head is a lot cleaner now. I'm basically cutting and shaving in TinkerCAD, exporting, smoothing, stretching, and scul...

That is a big improvement. Just how sophisticated are the clean-up tools in the #-Dsoftware you use? It seems like the basic shape is there. If this were a 2-D scan in Adobe Illustrator, you could probably smooth it pretty easily, but I have no idea what your software is like. There is probably ver...

Re: Bluehinter's Free 3-D printable 5" scale figures & vehicles (Got a printer? Print your own customs!)

I took the sidewalk chalk and ground it up as fine as I could, then placed it in a baggie along with the figure, and used an air duster to give everything a light dust coating. The results are probably not quite as good as I'd get if I painted the figure yellow, but a notable improvement over the or...

Re: Bluehinter's Free 3-D printable 5" scale figures & vehicles (Got a printer? Print your own customs!)

Like I said. I'm going to try rescanning in light box conditions over the weekend, and see if that works. Plan B is to find a sacrificial figure that I can repaint. If it wasn't small, black, and reflective, I'm sure ReCap would have an easier time with it. I wonder if you dust your figure down wit...

Re: Bluehinter's Free 3-D printable 5" scale figures & vehicles (Got a printer? Print your own customs!)

Shame about the Voord. Are there any stock action figure body models out there that you could modify without driving yourself crazy? The Voord head always seemed pretty geometric. The body isn't a problem, it's the head. It's symetrical, but it's got some very tricky "Jester" style curves...

I guess I didn't post on here, but the winner of the "Choose the Next Figure" poll by a clear majority was the Voord. http://www.strangecult.com/sa/who_toys/WIP147.JPG http://www.strangecult.com/sa/who_toys/WIP148.JPG Unfortunately, the mesh I got back from ReCap was.... not so good. Other...
