Is there a way to remove the gun and plunger from the main PE daleks? I’m trying to renovate one I repainted a year or 2 ago and would like to remove them to get a better finish.

Ideally you'd need to dismantle the Dalek. There's a plate behind the ball joint of both the gun and the plunger arm. If you are lucky, in later versions this can be removed. If not, you can apply a fair bit of pressure at the right angle to force the ball out from between this plate and the front of the Dalek. If you are very careful, then you can ease the gun backwards through the hole to remove it.

The plunger is slightly more tricky, because of course it won't fit through the hole. What I've done is to ease the ball joint backwards as you do with the gun, until the plunger rests against the front of the Dalek. With it loose like this, you can usually position it and use masking tape so that you can spray or paint it the colour you want. If you really must remove it, you can wrap the ball and part of the arm in masking tape to protect them, then grip the arm with one pair of pliers and the ball with another and twist gently but firmly until the arm comes out of the socket on the ball. It's not easy, and success is not guaranteed!

Good luck.

Here's a picture of one of my custom Daleks with the arm removed to show how it works...

Thank you, I’ve already dismantled it and it’s one of the older ones where the plates aren’t removable, I’m a bit scared to push or pull too much on the appendages in case they break off.

It’s nice to see how the plunger actually fits together on these.
