The new companion will, again, be a human from contemporary earth. This is necessary for audience identification and a ‘jumping on’ point for new viewers
How the companion gets where she is and what that means for the character is what will make her utterly different and fascinating
The new companion will not have any links to any previous characters
Her ‘journey’ will be shocking and intriguing. The Doctor has never met anyone quite like her before
Her very presence in the TARDIS will change the Doctor and there’s something different about her that will have a knock-on effect for the Doctor/companion dynamic

I hope that's she just a great companion, nothing overly special, none of that 'Super-God','half-Timelord' or 'grew-up-with-a-time-crack-in-my-wall-therefore-i'm-awesome' business this time, not saying any of that didn't work, on the contrary it was very interesting. Ok she's unique in someway, but i'd like it to be more like Ace, where the Doctor knows her presence is interesting and how she got where she was is a mystery (obviously we can't see 'Clara' messing about with nitro-9 and ending up with Glitz in distant space....or can we?) but preferably i'd like him to not go too OTT with her. Nothing wrong with just being a Jane Bloggs in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I don't get why people are so upset about it being another human, there are several billion of us on the planet and there's millions of interesting people. Not just two or three, so long as we have writers who can string together interesting characters i have confidence in them. I've never enjoyed a companions story as much as i have Amy Pond's, so i have hopes that this 'Clara' will be just as good.
