Personally, I prefer Susan to be the doctor's actual granddaughter, as her love for him would be strange if she wasn't, even if he was her grandfather reincarnated. It just makes more sense to me.

Something I'm sure I read in one of the Target novelisations when I was young was that when it came to regeneration nobody had ever survived their 13th. I always liked that theory as surely someone as spectacular as the Doctor would buck the trend and survive it. What I thought further backed this up was when the Valyard was described as an amalgamation of the darkesr side of the Doctor between his twelfth and final incarnation - if there really was a fixed limit then it would be expressed as between his twelfth and thirteenth incarnation.

I still stick to this being the case; Clara and the crack were simply a placebo, it was all the 11th Doctor's doing he regenerated and survived. Also because this was uncharted territory for a Timelord it explains why he reverted to his younger self for a while then had a split second change into the 12th.

Had the ground not already been laid to say it was just routine, this unchartered territory could also have explained a subsequent unprecedented sex-change.

One I considered, watching the Ascension the other day.., I never liked the idea of the Cybus cybermen as our universe Cybermen, as, so far ahead in the future as they're meant to originate, it'd be like going back to model T Ford's for the 25th/26th century Cybermen, in either developing the design themselves, or "teaming up" with lone petes world ones that somehow escaped, as one of the books theorizes.

But, then it occurred, Torchwood had plans of the Pete's World Cybermen after canary wharf (I'm sure you see them in the Hub, too), so assuming they do, we know Torchwood in some form exists as the Torchwood archive as far as the 42nd century, thanks to The Satan Pit, so my theory here was that our "proper" Cybermen acquired Torchwood's info somehow, then decided, with some modifications, to use them as quick to mass produce, cannon fodder troops in the final part of the Cyber War (and after typing that, I find the entire idea was already used in a comic, but an alien thief instead of Mondasian Cybes  )

I mean, it's suggestive that in the recent finale we have the Cyberwarriors, and then the Cybus cybermen. There's no implication that there's anything wrong with the Cybus ones, they're just not as advanced as the Warriors. All the cyber technology had been updated to resemble the NiS/Warrior chest units, but the Cybus cybermen are interacting fine, so I think it's safe to assume that they hold some lower rank in the hierarchy.

I'm also going to suggest here that the NiS design actually comes after the Warriors, because the soldiers didn't seem to recognise the design in NiS. That would also create a cohesive flow of design, with the earmuffs continuing, only stopping for the Cybus fodder, then finally being diched after the Warriors, thereby making the Cybus ones the oddball, not the Warriors.
