I didn't buy any back in the day because I thought they were a dreadful product. much like an awful lot of DW merchandise. I've never bought anything simply because it was from a favourite show or movie. I've only ever bought things that meet a certain quality. I don't think CO action figures are perfect but they're definitely the best yet. I can't imagine anyone bettering them. SFC even turned to CO for help when they developed the Torchwood figures. I doubt Dapol could have produced anything nearing CO standards. Even with modern technology.
This place is no longer fun to be involved with. I'm logging out and not coming back.

But that's just it, CO has modern technology at their disposal, laser scanners, 3D digital mapping, laser cutters, modern plastic injector machines and such like. Dapol's two sculpters were in-house at Crewe and Llangollen, as was the old style plastic injection machines (probably built in the mid 1970's). There was no big company team of sculpters (here and abroad) and computer technolgy to aid Dapol back in 1987-88. In business terms it was what they call a 'cottage industry' and Dapol did a fine job with the resources they had. Don't forget, a figure that is an inch and a half smaller than the current 5 inch figure is bound to have less detail and accuracy. Dapol went for the scale they did because of the then popular Star Wars figures at the time. Yes, perhaps they weren't as flash as a Star Wars figure but Dapol didn't have multi-billionaire companies such as Kenner and LucasFilm ploughing money into them. If CO had gone down the Star Wars scale route they wouldn't be half as good as what we all see on the shelves today.
Doctor Who took off on a big way when it came back. No one, not even the BBC were sure it was going to be a success, it was more than a success, it rocketed through the ratings and people just went mad for it. You only have to look at the figures CO first released in 2005 that they had nowhere near the money, technology and resources that they have now. I read in the Financial Times that CO had a profit increase of 400% between 2005 and 2006, that is staggering amount! Most businesses are pleased to make a 7% to 10% profit increase, but 400%, wow, just wow! It was this huge cash injection flow that allowed CO to expand to the quality it is today. Dapol never had this luck because sadly, the programme on the BBC was falling in popularity and up against the biggest television audience puller on ITV.

So in answer to your question, would I still buy from Dapol if they were still making Doctor Who figures, then yes, yes I would as they would look nothing like they did back in 1988.

Dapol are the only ones to make a classic console. Maybe only 5 sides but no one else has made one.

Plain answer is maybe but depending on what's released? The figures are ok in design but when compared to others ( Character options) They do look a little naive in their simpicity but after all they are 80's toys. :)

If they were making playsets and dioramas I would be snagging them! I still need a Dapol TARDIS set for my collection.

I had some luck a few years ago, apart from having one set boxed, I went to Oxfam in Manchester and for sale minus the box and Tetrap was a the Dapol set in full working order for £12.
