Got bored and started looking at Big Finish covers for different Dalek ideas.
They could do A Thing of Guile Dalek following more closely to whats on the cover, also Dalek Time Strategist using a 2008 Supreme Dalek but that wouldnt be right without the rings.
Theres a Dalek Overseer from Planet of the Ogrons which is basically Dalek Sec with a different arm attachment and a red eyestalk (also the lights on its head are different but im ignoring that so its an easy Dalek Sec by just swapping the arm and red eyestalk). The arm attachment is some really weird claw thing but the Crucible Dalek claw in black wouldnt be too bad honestly.
Cuz theyve ran out of War Doctor variants they could probably do a War Master using Marcus Scarmans body and Yanas head.
I definetly wouldnt complain if they just did a NOTD 8th Doctor re-release for one of them too.
Theres We Are The Daleks with a strange 7th Doctor outfit but I think Character would need to add some of their own ideas to it, could put it with a basic Imperial Dalek which wouldnt be too bad.
On twitter Al suggested that most of the classic dalek sculpts would require too much repair and too much retooling because they were damaged in storage.
he also said most of the sculpts from series 3 and earlier are too damaged to re-use too because their original factory closed down. he specifically mentioned the judoon being damaged.
So if true, no wonder they've favored classics in their strategy of late. The initial wave happened around series 4, so....they're all more readily available/reproduced.
Whereas the most in-demand figures from the Davies years and the most obvious monster (Daleks) have limited possibility due to the molds being damaged.
Tell you what, I'm gonna be twice as careful with my Collectors set #1 & "Genesis" set. I'm curious to know what survives on the Daleks front: Classic Daleks reissues seem obvious for a guaranteed sell, so whatever they DO have, it's be interesting to know what possibility there is.
Meanwhile, sounds like everyone assuming Judoon reissues (or series 1-3 monsters that could return to the series) would be common sense reissues are...pretty much off. No wonder the Companion set is a big question mark; Series 12 is likely to at best get....A Doctor variant (which ordinarily would sell), a new TARDIS (which I think will sell, especially with sound/lights & a current series), & the Companion set (Which, as 3 new head sculpts that could make or break investment in more new series characters, is a risk. We might want it, but it's like trying to get the not-we excited about a standalone Harry Sullivan figure package: It wouldn't happen, with good reason.)
In light of this new info, things I think make sense that have & haven't been mentioned:
*The Doctor and Cybermen pack idea. (They're back next series, and likely all molds exist needed based on releases since series 4.)
*If new Series releases/sets, favour variants/rereleases we know survive (Fez Matt, New Series Davros) that we haven't gotten or variants using existing headsculpts or that only need new heads/paint apps (A later River from S6-"Husbands", A David Bradley Doctor, A Simm Master update, Alternate Clara, etc.). Maybe get one new sculpt and surround it with straight rereleases (A "NIS" Cyberman or Series 12 one makes most sense here to me.)
*Classic monster variants allowing one "new" figure via new head, vinyl wrap and/or body combo (Ainley Master in THAT costume, Silurian (new head on Sea Devil body), "Attack" Cybercontroller(new head on "Attack" body), Haemovore, or Varl) in sets with desirable/rare straight rereleases (Magnus Greel/Mr Sin, "Revenge" Cybermen, Scaroth) or straight rereleases with paint variants (Ice Warrior with glossy "Peladon" paint job, a green "Mindwarp" Sil).
All that said, speaking of Al's Twitter - Anyone notice the Classic TARDIS wall behind the "Happiness Patrol" TARDIS?
Here's hoping that's a preview....
