Companion set idea tweeted by UT

Are Some of These Rumours True?

Another possibility is that the set ends up being half and half, with no Doctor specific uniformity.

So for a 12 companion set, it could be something like....

Susan
Jamie
Jo
Leela
Peri
Ace
Jack
Rose
Martha
Donna
Amy
Rory

....for example.

I think for practical reasons we'll have to assume that the set will contain a lot of tweaked re-releases, it's the only real way of keeping costs down

I think the problem with a lot of tweaked figures... is that it won't sell as well.

The 11 Doctors set could get away with it easier... 'cuz it featured all Doctor figures (the central point of the series). If nothing else, fans might buy the 11 Doctors for Paul McGann's 8th Doctor... as well as a hat-less Sylvester, different coloured Jon, different sculpt of David, Peter with celery & Tom in his grey coat.

But with the companions, I don't see many people buying a set of 11 figures (with it's impressive price tag)... for one or two never-before released Companion figures. I think any companion set, to give it the biggest possible chance of being successful, needs to be comprised mostly of previously un-released companions. They might get away with one or two re-releases... but I have my doubts about a set that only features one or two new companions.

Besides... there's already 3 Leela and Peri figures. I think they've been done enough (I know I only want 1 of each of them)... and we need to see some other characters.

Trouble is we may have to accept a few more of figures we already have, i'm sure there could potentially be 2-3 brand new companions in the set which will be it's main selling point but 11 Doctor's set was mostly tweaks and that's why we were able to buy it at a fair price. If the set is to be full of mostly new companions, then we'll be looking at a very expensive set.

I can see them sticking a Series 3 Sarah in there with perhaps a new head... she wore jeans a leather jacket in the 3rd Doctor era quite a lot.
I can see both Peri's being in there or perhaps the Caves Peri and then the purple repaint, doubling as a companion for both 5 and 6...

It really does leave a lot to wonder how this would be done and if what we know is wrong about no Grace or no expanded media or no more Rose or Sarah figures?
Don't worry... it's the end but the moment has been prepared for... you can still find me bashing the New 52 and other things comic book related at www.ImWithGeek.com

I think it will be a pretty hard set to make, it's getting to the point where i think UT were just having a laugh at our expense. We're looking at a set that either A) Hardly anyone would buy because it'd be mostly tweaked re-releases or B)A set full of brand new companions that will retail at over £100/$150, that only those with the thickest wallets would buy.

If they downscaled a bit and shrunk the box so we had maybe a 7 classic companions set, that contained 4 tweaked re-releases and 3 new ones, then perhaps it's possible. Followed by a companions set 2, a year or two later?

Or a "Companions of..." series of sets:

Ian, Babs and Susan
Jamie, Victoria and Zoe (in PVC mini skirt)
Liz, Jo, Sarah
Harry, Leela, Romana 2 (in schoolgirl outfit)
Nyssa, Tegan and Adric (with exploding keyboard)
Peri. Kamelion, Mel
Ace, Benny and Hex
Grace, Charlie and Lucy

Of course they'd never happen, but fun to speculate

Have we had any figures from the 'Expanded Universe'? Anything that hasn't appeared on screen? All I can think of is the gold and black Dalek from the battle pack.

It's unfortunate, but we know this set will include:
Rose (Series 2)
Matha (Series 3)
Amy (Series 5)
Peri
Leela
Sarah Jane (Series 2)

And maybe some new sculpts.

11 Doctors was great. 9 and 11 being the only let downs for me as they could easily have given 9 a blue jumper and 11 a fez Doc with standard hair.

There was the Real Time Sixth Doctor.
