Most of the stories currently slated for release through the mag are one's I don't have, and will be cheaper than buying through Amazon (by about £25). Would it be pointless starting now, or should I go for it?

Go for it. Although I would advise getting some back issues to fill out the collection a bit and to get the binders (2, 20, 40 and 60) and dividers (3 and 51).

Cool, thanks, I'll see about getting a subsciption then, either this week, or for my birthday in a month. Do you think I'd still get the subscription "Gifts" if I subscribed, or are they long gone ?

You still get them, although the only decent one really is a copy of The Movie in the style of the rest of the DVDs.

I mean you get a new DVD every other week and they are better value then normal DVD's!

Take the Classic they are about £10 for a story... But in the DVD Files you get it for £7 with a magazine as well! :)

You may pay more for the classic range for some but you get more content (extras) on the disc for your money. Plus you get to choose which story you buy next from the classic range the magazine chooses the next release and you dont have to wait for certain stories to turn up (war games has been out for three years and there is no sign of it appearing in the magazine being 1 example). Plus at least for the classic releases all surviving episodes should be out by the end of next year. Ive calculated the magazine will run out of classic releases sometime late 2015/early 2016. Thats about 3 and a half years away

Bear in mind though that there are also new series stories that are no doubt going to come out as well, and The War Games and The Trial of a Time Lord will get split up into two discs and four discs likely just as The Invasion was split up and they also seem to have intention to include Shada in their releases as well as all the orphaned stories. By that point you are well into the end of 2017, perhaps pushed into 2018 if we get an increased episode output in the next few years.

It depends on whether or not you are willing to wait, if you are then it works out fine.

I took new episodes into consideration. You would be finished round about late 2015 if they did not add new episodes. Wikepidia lists up toissue 121 in august 2013. To my count there is round about 62 classic stories that wont have had a release plus add about three series of stories (im keeping at 13 ep + 1 xmas a series = 7 issues a series for easy addition) which is 21. Plus split war games in 2 and trial into 4 its a grand total of 87 issues. Ive calculated it out as a late 2016 finish when it finally runs out of dvds. Of course if animation is finacially sucseccful with the classic dvd range the magazine range could continue beyond then but 5 years is still a long time to wait to complete your collection

The wikipedia list is heavily vandalised, only up to issue 111 has been confirmed (and even then they only have 110 issues so something between 99 and 111 will be dropped or they need an extension).

Plus you haven't included the orphaned stories which brings the total up quite a bit they did say in their magazine that the only stories that they were never going to bring out were the completely missing ones, and animation or not it can't be that hard to stick the soundtracks on a DVD (they've already done it with The Crusade and The Moonbase).

Well... I said a few months back that I'd subscribe to the files, and the other night, I tried to do just that. Except there was one small problem. The maximum card expiry date is December 2015 on their website, and my card goes out of date in 2016. So I can't subscribe. Any ideas on what to do? Tried to contact them, and got the DWMI person replying instead, saying that they'd fix the website ASAP, but I think they thought I was talking about MI. Emailed again to clarify, and got sent a copy of their FAQ's. Not exactly helpful. Bit annoyed also at them, because I ordered a few back issues into the local shop and after taking two months to arrive, they arrived with cracked DVD cases and a missing binder from issue 60. So I've got them to complain, so hopefully they'll send a binder this time. But it's a bit annoying, all this hassle for a few magazines...
