Well, I did say that during my Rassilon thesis. ;)

The Eternal Dalek wrote:I wouldn't be suprised if the character was Ace but there is always that small chance it's not. As RTD is head of spin-offs and Moffat does not want to bring back old characters Ace could only really come back through RTD.

I don't agree at all. Moffat will probably bring back some, and probably due to pressure from the BBC and merchandise licensees, not just fans.

That aside, IF I were FORCED to accept this bit of fluff dialogue as canonically referring to Ace, then I would write a script using this description as some cover for her on Earth while she's away in her very tight fitting armor. ;)

Moffat does not get pressure from the BBC. Most of the time he pressures the BBC. They are always looking for ways to cut the budget even further. The merchandisers don't have any control over the BBC the only thing connecting them is that Mr. Moffat loves the toys and writes in monsters deliberatly to get them.

I would like to know how a Producer, a lowly producer gets say over merchandising? Something doesn't make sense in that. Either you don't know what you're talking about or you buy way too much into the hype of things and believe everything you read. That's just silly buisness!

Yes, I, vs, and others, disagree with you, but that's best left to that other thread.

Oh, JNT did have some say, but that was a different era. DW is a cash cow now.

Yeah but he's a Producer... what the Hell does he know about marketing or anything like that. He makes the show... other people handle promotion and merchandising. I know the BBC HAS to know how to conduct buisness properly!

Right, I'll try to put it as simply as possible. The BBC gets it's money from the lisence payer. A part of the BBC called BBC worldwide is in charge of overseas sales and merchandising. All the money Worldwide makes either pays for merchandising or the people who work for it. The BBC and the people working for it do not get a penny of merchandising unless it's through royalities. Steven Moffat is the head writer of the show and executive producer not just producer. A producer makes episodes an executive producer makes the series as a whole. He as head writer decides which episodes he wants, who writes them, which monsters come back etc.

You're reiterating your previous statement which we understood perfectly. We simply don't agree. The pressures remain.

The BBC and BBC Worldwide are almost like two seperate things with no say over how each other are run. Steven Moffat can create new monsters which he thinks will make good toys so he can get them for himself. Beth Willis has confiscated his River Song and Vespiform many times during important meetings.

I needed to quote that for posterity. ;)

 Just cause he makes new monsters doesn't mean they'll see figures. And I doubt anyone confiscated anything... you have heard of exageration or embelishment, right? How about the phrase, "Take it with a grain of salt?"
