I am currently anticipating the arrival of The Daemons. A show writen decades ago on a budget that wouldn't pay for the catering on the new show, and fimed inside a few weeks - and is leaps and bounds ahaead of anything that Moff did. The link here of course is the Angels / Bok. Moff wrote Angels into a story for one of the UK annuals, and it was restructured into a Doctor Lite episode as we all know. It was in all fairness a very good show and proved very popular, but it wasn't a Doctor Who episode, and I think that's what most people including the BBC forget. It won awards and the like, but not for being a good Doctor Who story... He can't in muy opinion write Who, as he doesn't understand it. Who is NOT, Mr. Moff man, a fairy story.

You know.. Van despised the Christmas special, too. BUT I'll say I liked it more than I have most of Moffat's work. Why? Three words.. "No River Song". It was SO refreshing to have The Doctor by himself. And I don't mean with goofy, cliche'd characters like Craig. Just by himself taking care of a problem, figuring out a solution, and coming to a resolution. I have such Companion burnout. And I believe it's because of Moffat using Amy and River as nothing but story crutches. I know that RTD had his moments of repetitiveness with PLOT, but I never got sick of seeing a character.. not even when they brought Donna on full-time as the Companion. Her character was developed enough and Catherine Tate is SUCH an amazing actress. I simply wasn't bored or tired of her.

I also have a huge appreciation for chemistry between a Doctor and his Companion.. and Matt has ZERO chemistry with Amy and the creep, ick factor between he and Alex Kingston is enough to totally turn me off forever. I just want the casting to get better and I want and desperately NEED the writing to get better. I want to continue to care about this show, Moffat!! Stop trying to make it so difficult for me!

That Christmas special was really hard to watch. In truth, I have yet to watch it all in one sitting. I can't take it.
River, I agree 100%. Not a River fan, tho, I liked the concept of a time traveller meeting someone that knows him from his own future. And that's where my liking ends. I find her annoying, and frustrating and even Moff couldn't write his own story line with a comprehensible outcome - showing that he doesn't care at all about the integrity of what goes on screen. And, how in the name of... does the child of Amy and the dweeb become a TIMELORD!!!!!!!!!! I don't care how he tried to explain it, but it holds as much water as saying that a CO set that someone has bought doesn't exist because it hasn't been announced yet !!!!!!

You are our new best friend! I have loathed most Christmas Specials. I loved The Christmas Invasion... and The End of Time Part 1 was great... it was Part 2 that blew... and this last one was like a trip to the dentist's office.

OH MY GOD thank you!!!! That is exactly how I feel! It's complete and total BS!!! Just BS falling out all over the place! It's degrading and gross and UNNECESSARY!!!! I don't need to know about what goes on behind the closed TARDIS doors and I sure don't need it spawning a disgusting, overused, played out, OLD WOMAN who wants some of the Doctor's brownies!!!! GOOD LORD man! Stop IT!

Ok here’s my two cents,
The biggest problem with Moffat’s Who is that he is writing a fairy tale for the most part which throws up out of place characters like the winders; am I seriously expected to believe their job is to go round winding up street lights?
It started well with the Eleventh Hour, I really enjoyed that episode as I felt it set a nice tone in that it wasn’t all doom and gloom but it wasn’t too silly either (Although that giant eye was really pushing it). After that everything crumbled in my eyes from Matts stupid shouty scene near the end of the best below to the iDaleks.
However Moffat does also share a common weakness with RTD in that neither of them can write a fore filling ending (Doctor Who and Torchwood I haven’t seen any of his other work). The entire 6th Series depended on the ending and it was lets be honest complete cr@p, the shot of the Doctor in the tesselector should have just been replaced with Moffat flipping off the audience with both hands. As an audience we wasted 13 weeks plus the gap for that, at least if it was a ganger it would have given episodes 5 and 6 more relevance but then again the only point of Lets Kill Hitler in the end was to introduce that robot. Also does anyone know why River even had to be in the suit when it was already established that it could move around on its own. Moffat set up and impossible task as there was never going to a satisfying ending to this ark that didn’t throw away an entire seasons worth of story telling of asking is the Doctor good or bad for the universe. Well screw it he has a robot suit and doesn’t need to face up to that question. Seriously every beautiful moment where he slowly comes to term with his death= pointless, hell the entire season= pointless. Don’t get me wrong Moffat can come up with some really good ideas like the Angels and the Silence, however both have been dirtied through recent appearances as in my opinion you should never ever see the Angels move or see the Silence on screen unless the character followed is wearing an eye drive.
But the number one thing that annoys me about Moffat is his off screen winging about how much work he has got as he juggles Who with Sherlock. Why did he even bother if it’s too much? To be honest it makes the lazily written Christmas specials sting a bit more as it’s like he just basing them on other peoples stories to save himself a bit of time.

I always thought it was a one-off type thing, but clearly it isn't. What was wrong with the classic way presenting the logo, the actors' names, and story title?

Maybe it's because I'm super tired but when did this happen?

It's a change to the North American BBC America airing. We get... a recap of the series.

Well the ad break ups are old hat that's just life for us but Doctor Who never had a recap until last year!
Well some of the classic series did but they were a handful of early Tom Baker stories.
