Sorry, can't tell you where to get such a lava lamp. I got this among other stuff from someone from America, he sent me a parcel with things I might find useful. I don't have contact to him anymore so I cannot ask. You can only do an online search vor "miniature lava lamp" and hope something turns up one day.

How about this, for example? lava lamp phone charm

Thanks for that... I shall have a shufti on eBay when I get home. Good thinking, 1/12 scale lady :D

LOL I didn't mean to imply that you HAVE to be adult to buy those. If you have the money, you surely can do so already. I just meant, that these are no toys, but rather for adults who still are a kid inside.

So, go and have fun

So here comes the story I actually wanted to post some weeks ago, before the whole book thing happened.

This is part 1/2

A few weeks ago the Doctor visited me in my homecity Dresden. After he had showed me around London so nicely, I wanted to reciprocate. Sorry, it became quite a few pictures. So here is our sightseeing:

We started at the River Elbe - Dresden has the oldest and biggest fleet of steamboats in the whole world.

Image

Image

Not of much use for us because of the ice floes, though. He must come back in Sommer for a ride with these.

Image

This is the Ministry of Finance. In Summer people sit at the stairs, because down at the ground is a stage and a screen and there are concerts and movies with the historical city silhouette as a background. Very nice!

Image

Alongside the River Elbe is the Elbe bikeway, where not only bicycles can be seen but also people with inline skates, dogs or children buggies.

Image

There even was a bit of snow left so the Doctor could try out his new sledge.

Image

Sorry Doctor, you'll have to come back in Summer for the beer garden!

Image

This is the so called "Golden Rider", it is Saxonian King August the Strong. It was him who collected all the jewelry and paintings which now can be seen in museums, and let erect the baroque buildings. Without him Dresden would not be what it is today.

Image

Another famous man was Bernardo Bellotto, called Canaletto. He was a painter who made lots of paintings about the city. The most famous one shows the complete silhouette and at the place where he must have been standing they put a picture frame so you have the same view.

Image

(There also were a man and a woman at the time I was making those pictures, and I showed mine to the man, and he called over his wife and said: "Have you seen, it looks as if he is really standing there!" and she asked: "What, the Ken?")

Image

This is the Doctor sitting on the Augustus Bridge, one of many bridges over the River Elbe. It is the oldest and made from sandstone (as most buildings in Dresden are).

Image

Now we're at the other side of the river and are standing in front of the opera house, built by Gottfried Semper. That's why it's also simply called "Semper-Oper".
The memorial in front of the opera shows King Johann. Yes, we had many of them.

Image

At the left is the Catholic chapel royal (King August converted from Evangelic to Catholic just to become King in Poland) and at the right the Dresden Castle.
For this picture I had to lay down on my belly and surely amused a lot of people.

Image

And now we're at the "Zwinger", it was built as a place to have celebrations like weddings, with many people. It also has many museums, a porcelain collection, a collection of historical scientic instruments, weapons and the art gallery, of which the most famous picture is Raphael's "Sistine Madonna".

Image

This is the "Kronentor" (Crown Gate), the main entrance.
When I made this picture a tourist woman asked: "Excuse me, is this little man standing there all the time?"

Image

Here's a layout of the inside of the Zwinger:

Image

During Summer time of course there are fountains and flowerbeds.

Image

The entry in the background has a glockenspiel made from Meissen porcelain. Each day at 3 PM it plays a nice melody.

Image

Well, at this time I started to worry about the Doctor. I know, Timeloards do have a slightly lower body temperature than humans, but in this snow, only with Converse and a thin suit, that can't be healthy. I wouldn't want to be responsible if he had to regenerate because of a cold, as he looked a bit frozen. So we decided to leave the rest of the sightseeing for another day and went home by Tram.

Here I became the amusement of some children when their mum called: "Look, a little uncle!"

Image

Image

Image

In my flat I tried to make the Doctor comfortable and warm, but I'll leave those pictures for the second part. Here is a little teaser though:

Thank you! I know I promised more pictures but here are just a few in between:

Somebody gave me the idea for this with writing "Any chance of CJ getting his own wee figure for these?"? Naturally, I had to take it and run away with it. So I give you not only Captain Jack, but also Charlie and Harris. These are the three dogs of John Barrowman.

When I bought them, they did not look like they do now, so I had to do a bit of painting.

Image

Image

The first one I found was Harris. This Cocker Spaniel is a children's toy made out of rubber/gum from "Bullyland" and I got it from German ebay.

I painted all the white spaces black, but my paint was only a matt one, so I highlightened the furry with some Edding pen for gloss.

Image

For Charlie, I had to do a bit more searching. I did not like any of the other Spaniels at ebay. Then I found this figure. Not sure what is it made from - gesso? The label says "Original by Castagna, made in Italy, 1988". One of those figures you put into your book shelf. I think he looks really cute (although I can't really shake the impression that this is rather a female dog? Forgive me, Charlie!) Got this from German ebay as well.

As you can see in the picture, he was not all thorough brown, so I had to do something about that. At first I wanted to buy paint in that exact color, but I was afraid of clogging up the fine hair lines, so I just used a felt pen back from my childhood. Who would've thought they would come in handy more than twenty years later. Since we only had the basic colors back in the G.D.R. (plus they were very expensive, too) I have to thank my aunt Heike from Western Germany for always providing me with a huge range of pens and colors.

Image

Yesterday finally the last one arrived - from Hong Kong! It is called "Kaiyodo Takara ChocoQ Animatales Jack Russell Terrier Figure A" and arrived in several parts which I had to put together, much like those surprises in Kinder eggs. But I think he looks wonderful and was well worth his price! He has not exactly the markings as the real Captain Jack, but as he is so tiny and well painted I decided not to tinker with him.

Image

Here are some pictures of John Barrowman with his "boys" for comparison:

The first one is from this page: [strong]http://www.newswales.co.uk/newspics/22484_full.jpg[/strong]

Image

And the second one from this page: [strong]http://homesandtravel.co.uk/2011/12/09/travelling-abroad-visiting-your-home-in-the-sun-take-your-pet-with-you/[/strong]

Image

You also can watch a video, an advertisement for Virgin Atlanti's Pet Travel, in which all three dogs are starring (together with Daddy, of course): [strong]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlymVbrFXVY[/strong]

So, here comes the second part of my little Doctor-visit. After all the sightseeing we did in part 1, we are back home now.

I was afraid the Doctor would get a serious cold, so I treated him to a hot tea and warm water for the feet:

Image

Image

The picture you see hanging at the wall is the one I was talking about in the first part - the famous Dresden silhouette by Canaletto. Here is it in bigger:

http://picture.yatego.com/images/456da92b7b17a8.5/big_694357.r1-kqh/bernardo-canaletto--bild-dresden-vom-rechten-elbufe.jpg

Image

I also had to add the picture to his cup. It says "I ♥ Dresden" on the other side, but the Doctor was only able to hold the cup with his right hand. So instead of showing you the magnet that was put there, I removed it and fixed the hole with this picture. Don't tell anybody!

Image

The next day the Doctor was on his way and I can just hope that he will visit me again. Preferably during Summer time. When he comes back, I'll let you know about it!

And now a bit of behind the scenes:
Are you interested how I made that stylish glass table? Easy. Used a box which had held playing cards before, and some wire:

I do have a new story for you all.
The Torchwood team of course also joined in with all the celebrations for the Queen jubilee. And they didn't even have to fear of rain, setting their tables underground.

Image

The Hub was decorated with a lot of flags, and also a lot of food was prepared:

Image

Image

Image

Gwen already is sitting at the table, which is set with many wonderful things - notice the Union Jack paper plates!

Image

Image

Ianto brings some tea:

Image

Only Tosh is still working:

Image

Jack calls her over. "Tosh, put that thing away and join us!"

Image

Image

Image

But Tosh refuses. "Jack, there is something you really need to see. It's important!"

What could be more important than to celebrate the jubilee? What did Tosh find? Come back tomorrow and find out!

Here comes the second part of the Torchwood team celebrating the Queen jubilee. If you missed part 1, you can catch up here: http://doctorwhotoys.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=445451#p445451

We finished yesterday with Tosh having Jack something important to show. Click the link to see all the pictures to find out what it was!

"Jack, look - there's you right on the Belfry Barge!"

Image

Jack says: "Can't be, as I am here right now, am I?" But when he sees the picture he can't quite deny it.

Image

Tosh says: "I'm putting the footage onto the other screen as well for Ianto and Gwen I'm playing the video - now."

Image

Gwen and Ianto have come over as well, worried. Ianto is silent but Gwen demands answers. "What is going on, Jack? How can you be in two places at once?"

Image

Then Ianto shares a quiet observation after seeing the close-up on the screen.
"You look somewhat older. - It suits you!", he hastily adds after a sideway glance of Jack.

Image

But Jack seems to be the only one not disturbed. "People, we still have a Jubilee to celebrate. If, and I stress, IF that's me from a far future, then I'm sure I will do everything to make this day perfect. Let's be cautious at the moment, as long as we don't know what's going on. You really don't want to interfere with things like this, and it could cause a paradoxon."

Image

So, they all finally sat around the table and ate and drunk while poor Owen was laying at home, having the flu.

Image

And here some coverage of the BBC of the Jubilee Pageant on the River Thames.

Image

There were lots of boats.

Image

There were also lots of people at the streets, waving their flags.

Image

Now where have I seen those two before?

Image

The National Theatre greeted the Queen with her favourite play "War Horse".
