Damn... Now THAT'S how they should have been coloured.
A question that must never be answered.

I agree, i think if these had been the 'drone' daleks then they would have been a lot more popular.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, anything would be better than the RTD Bronze lot.

The mid-60s lot are probablly the best design there has been, but after those old rusty "dustbins" (as the Ninth Doctor called them) showed up anythign could go as far as I was concerned, the design had already been taken too far. So it's not that I like the Paradigm, it's that I hate the RTD Daleks so much that I have projected that hatred into a liking of the Paradigm.

TD888... those Daleks aren't the way they looked onscreen. The proportions have been altered to make then look more like classics.
The modeller has reduced the diameter of the shoulders and made them more vertical, and increased the diameter of the neck rings and dome. The bumper has been widened and the gun reduced in size. That's why it looks better... it's not the same Dalek we saw on screen.

This was an attempt to make them look better, but it isn't just the colour, it's been remodelled.

TV21... Those daleks are a mock up, paint a drone in those colours and see for yourself. They look good. They aren't for everyone, some people are too used to the old daleks or don't like change... (TV21 :P ) But they are bigger and bulkier, more menacing. Granted not as menacing as the classic daleks, but a hell of a lot better than the RTD daleks.

I've thought a lot about them since we saw them, but i've settled for the opinion that : Change is good, and those daleks are nice - Shame about the colours but you can't have everything.

I don't mind change! When I was growing up the Daleks and Cybermen changed. When I seen Earthshock Cybermen for the first time I was like WOW, and the Daleks in Remembrance I like as well. The new Daleks just have no appeal, over sized and look silly. Private eye had this article on them in 2010.

…in return for investment in this year series, Worldwide suggested that a new Dalek would come in very useful and in return it is getting nothing less than a full set of entirely redesigned models in dayglo colours. The red, blue, yellow, orange and white Daleks collect them all because your kids are going to nag you to death to do so! All will be unveiled in this Saturdays episode and will appear in shops soon afterwards.

At a recent screening, the unveiling of the chunkier, clunkier and frankly less frightening nu-Daleks was watched in silence until, at the end, one audience member put his hand up and asked: “Are they actually finished, or are you going to replace them with some better CGI?

Makes a lot of sense!!!

I don't know what's more amazing, the fact that Private eye reported on the daleks or the fact that Ian reads private eye!

I stand by them, they haven't been given a proper chance to scare us yet, and the colours are what makes them seem silly. Paint a tank bright pink and see if it's as scary, not when it's parked, but damn, when it's crushing your car!

The last line of the article always stuck with me...“Are they actually finished, or are you going to replace them with some better CGI?

TD888 if you look back through this thread i retextured a fatlek model from my runtime folder and it still looked awful.
Tell you what, I'll get a cheap drone and paint it '70s grey. I'll also paint a Time War Dalek grey.

I do like change... when it works.

And I'll repeat what I said before... those are NOT screen-accurate Daleks, they have been redesigned. Mock-ups or not, they aren't NPDs. You can colour them green or pink and they still won't be screen-accurate NPDs.
THIS is:

I used an accurate model and recoloured it. It STILL looks terrible... as menacing as the Nursery Dalek from the 60s.

Nursery Dalek... tremble with fear!!!
