Can I still paint this and it still have a see through effect?

No because you will be painting over it so will loose the effect, the only way would be to somehow dye the plastic a new colour which would be really hard and id imagine you would need some sort of expert to do. How about just hollowing the bottom out and installing LEDs to light it up inside with the colour you want, not perfect and batteries will be a bit of a pain but best solution I can come up with im afraid!

Well I use markers then paint really. So I could always test and see right?

You can yes, id never think of doing it due to the risk so just going by my own perception but try if you want. Nothing is discovered without trial and error!

Ebay is your best bet, buy one cheap then salvage parts off of it. Must ask though you are coming out with some odd questions, what on earth is the custom your trying to make :lol:

Permanent marker do the same, it is solid colour.
