A Discussion about the Valeyard and ToaTL

Post by Gek2Win » Tue Oct 01, 2019 3:59 pm

Who was he? What were his motives? What really happened at the end of ToaTL? I want to hear your thoughts and opinions about this oddity of a doctor who villain.

I don't think that even deserves a response.

What's the explanation? "Somewhere between your twelfth and final incarnation?"

So maybe he's Matt Smith in a rubber mask? :)

I always just figured he was some weird in-between incarnation sort of like the Watcher was, but who separated off because of... reasons... and went back in time to make himself "real" by stealing all of the Doctor's regeneration energy.

I never gave it too much thought because I figured it was never really going to pay off when the time came.

Being Mr Popplewick must have been very uncomfortable.

I haven't actually watched Trial in it's entirety, yet, currently watching it inter spread with other serials, I prefer the ambiguity about him, nailing it down perhaps would ruin the mystery of him, and any attempt would never live up to anything I or anyone else could conjure up. That said, I do like the idea that he was like the Watcher, an between incarnation, in fact, I could forsee a way of him coming into being via his recent "resurrection" in BF - without giving away plot points as it's new-new.

The one I leaned more toward is he is the Doctor, from a "possible" future timeline, like how Fenric used the ancient haemovore from that possible future, "the" future as it would be at that point, and he ceased to be when that timeline was averted (not something that'll happen for the Valeyard for a very, very long time, as no doubt, it will be an event during a regeneration yet to be seen, or ever seen), or indeed, an alternate universe version itself, like David Warner, easy enough at that point to travel between them as 10 said.

:? I thought that said ‘being in Mr Popplewick must have been very uncomfortable’.

Al Dewar, if you are reading this, please give me a job/ all variants of all figures you have ever produced (delete as applicable).

Despite occasional claims to the contrary, the blessed St. Verity Lambert is not recognised by any major church.

I ran across a youtube video that pointed out that technically cloneTennant was the twelfth incarnation, so the speculation was he somehow became the Valyard.

I didn't watch the whole thing because, well, honestly the guy was kind of annoying.
