I guess the BBC EDA range is kind of a seperate timeline, because they really don't fit with the timeline of the audio stuff

I’ve just not added it in yet. The audios actually do reference the novels.

oh really? I thought the narratives were pretty incompatible. I'd always theorised that the novels audios and comics were three seperate timelines, one leading to night of the doctor, john hurt and the new series, one leading to the curse of fatal death and one leading to shalka. Probably BF to New who, novels to curse and comics to shalka.

Well, Gary Russell actually did try to say they were all separate timelines in Zagreus, but then when Nick Briggs took over he started referencing the novels and comics. But basically in the novels, the main continuity issue is the war in heaven leading to the destruction of Gallifrey and Romana III existing.

But the War in Heaven was established as being something that was meant to be in the Doctor's future rather than happening in his present, and in the BF Gallifrey series they did an arc with a Romana III where she’s preparing Gallifrey for a war that isn’t the Time War. And then Romana 3’s existence and the War are undone by Irving Braxiatel, so Romana 2 is back and then the Time War happens shortly after.

So I just explain it away as everything involving Gallifrey in the novels happens in that timeline which is then undone. The only other issues are to do with companions like Susan and Jo who have very different lives from what later things have established but the novels have a whole arc where loads of companions are killed off and brought back and the timelines are basically changing every two minutes in that series so I don’t take it too seriously.

Though I do like the idea that if the EDAs had continued without intervention in the timeline, the Eighth Doctor would’ve regenerated into the Shalka Doctor. They already set that up and it’s supported in the books because the Master appears trapped in the TARDIS and he’s described like the Shalka Master while the Shalka Doctor appears in a vision as a potential future Doctor.

I think I just like the take that’s currently taking prevalence, that everything is true and everything happened at some point but the timelines are changing so often that you can only really trust what’s in the present. Which makes sense really given all the contradictions in TV alone. The fate of the Earth (The Ark, The Mysterious Planet, The End of the World, Orphan 55), the three Atlantises, The Doctor’s origins, UNIT dating, and I’m sure there’s many other things I’ve failed to mention. Obviously other opinions are available. And suddenly this has become overly long.

In the Time War audios, Big Finish actually explained why Ace has so many contradictory fates by just saying “Irving Braxiatel did it” which is a common explanation BF use.

I think he basically messed around with Ace’s timeline to the point it was blurred and contradictory to cover his tracks when he dumped her on Earth and to ensure that the Time Lords couldn’t use her biodata to track where she went.

And they basically used the Time War to explain how there can be stories between The Smugglers and The Tenth Planet, because the Daleks attack the First Doctor’s timeline which knocks them away from Antarctica or something.

Oh and in Planet of the Ogrons, again in the Time War audios, it’s established that the Ogrons weren’t originally in Day of the Daleks, they were just retroactively inserted during the Time War.

So yes, lol Time War did it.

That guy gets about. Although I suppose that’s easy when there’s several of you.
