A Selection of Virgin Missing Adventures Doctor Who Book Jackets and Character Figures from Cyberlek's Collection

In 1989, the same year that Doctor Who the show was cancelled, the Virgin company took over Target Books.

From 1991 Virgin had published their Virgin New Adventures novelisations of the show. But with the broadcast episodes now mostly all already novelised, the BBC granted Virgin a licence to publish the Missing Adventures titles, being mostly original stories continuing on from the 'final' TV episode. Virgin Missing Adventures titles were published from 1994 to 1997. Following that the BBC published their own Eighth Doctor and Past Doctor Adventures titles.

Fast forward to the new series of BBC Books which began with the publication of the first three titles in May 2005 New Series Books. These had been preceded by a distinguished legacy of novelisations stretching back to 1964 Classic Series Books
