Yeah so it looks like the Angels are in Series 13 after all. There’s a new filming pic knocking about of Jodie on a beach with a Weeping Angel.

Pro:
*Again, Series 13 using legit monsters/threats.

Con(s):
*The inevitable "Don't blink, blink and you're dead" rehash speech.

*The fear we're getting a "Blink" rehash, period.

Also, soooooooo are we gonna have Yaz and 13 recognize Angels per the very hyped comic storyline where they literally were in the events of "Blink"? Or are we just gonna leave comics fans in an awkward headcanon place?

Finally, the Sontarans are a win/win choice imo: Classic fans like them, and may not like how they've been portrayed in the New Series. New Series fans associate them with the Davies era. And they're an ADVERSARY - their very nature means there should be a dramatic conflict and put 13 in a heroic opposition to them. I welcome that story and it seems hard to mess up.

The Weeping Angels.....are looking more and more like an argument for one off villains with a perfect story/resolution- I'd argue they're better in their cameos and (mind, I like their Series 5 appearance) require their very premise changed to fit every other story they're in. I'm sure a skilled writer could use them in a great story. Diplomatically, I'm less sure we have those circumstances now.

Bottom line; It's a great monster and gives 13 a great premise/conflict.....but it definitely makes me nervous, especially as all the other desperate nods to the Davies era have been less well executed.

The angels are at their best when not written by moffat, he never seems to make the most of their potential. Best weeping angel story is touched by an angel, the Jonathan Morris book, something half as cleverly written as that would be perfect.

Sadly I think Chibnall taking on a writer with a savvy for the show and its lore like Morris is as realistic as Neil Gaiman, Douglas Adams, Russell T Davies and Robert Holmes being announced as the not-Chibnall writers for Series 13.

Not impossible, I suppose. Just not likely based on where we've been lately.

(The former, I mean. ;) )

Onscreen, if I omit a couple hot minutes of "The God Complex", questionable inclusion in "Revolution of the Daleks", & that whole bit in "Class" I think this would be the first full episode non-Moffat Angel endeavor anyway.

I’m sure come the Chibnall script you’ll adding a caveat to that.......

No doubt the Angel will either be the one from the prison, or one seeking the Doctor’s help to free their life-partner from the prison where they were sentenced for a crime they didn’t commit so they can hide out in the Los Angeles underground where they will survive as soldiers of fortune......

On a side note I had a chuckle watching 'Beat the Chasers' on ITV earlier as one of the questions was 'On what planet was the Doctor born' and the 'correct' answer was 'Gallifrey' which obviously got retconned last season.
On that side note, they asked last night what planet Darth Vader grew up on - and the answer was Tatooine. Anakin maybe (until spirited away by the Jedi), but Darth Vader?

I never assume something's going to be bad, if I did I wouldn't like it even if it was good.

You wouldn’t be pleasantly surprised? Not being the ‘best’ doesn’t make it ‘bad’ - but given we are talking about the Chibnall era I can understand where you are coming from ;)

The angels are great in Blink, and really good for the first half of their series 5 outing, but damn if it isn’t supremely annoying how Moffat changed their rules every time he used them

Has anyone else mentioned that the Doctor killed that TARDIS? It's pretty well established that they're sentient creatures, right? They weren't built they were grown plus 'The Doctor's Wife' which shows the 'soul' of the TARDIS placed inside Idris.
Oof, that really does resonate....

She didn't really blink about someone else blowing themselves up or blowing up the Master (who the show has gone through pains 10 years previously to illustrate means something to the Doctor too), or all other life on Gallifrey (which has pretty disturbing ramifications that are just being glossed over) to just run away and save herself. Bluntly; Running away and saving themselves at others' expense? Maybe the Doctor has no business criticizing Jack Robertson - they both do the same cowardly thing.

It's on Chibnall in both instances, so given the frankly shocking and poor writing, I guess one more body count (er, TARDIS count) is no big thing to our resident sociopath. :P
This whole era feels like a first draft on paper and a first take on camera, the amount of oversight and disregard of continuity is astonishing.

To be fair the character we know as the Doctor came to be as a resultof being on gallifrey, so technically its correct. :)
