What is a Cyberman?

Cybermen are cyborgs, or cybernetic organisms.

As a species, they are originally human in type; their home planet is Mondas. However they began a radical programme of artificial cybernetic implantation.

Ultimately, with little or no organic self remaining, the Cyberman is emotionless and machine-like, making them one of the Doctor's most dreaded and ruthless adversaries.

The first appearance of the Cybermen in Doctor Who was in The Tenth Planet in 1966, since when they have been a recurring theme. Cyberman was created by screenwriter Gerry Davis (1930-1991) and scientist Dr Christopher Pedler (1927-1981) former Head of Miscroscopy at the University of London.

Cyberman Toys

There is a vast army of Cyberman toys, though in terms of numbers they probably lose out to the Daleks.

In 1977 a 9" Cyberman action figure was released by Mego and Denys Fisher. Denys Fisher Cyberman

During the 1980's Dapol released a Cyberman as part of its range of Doctor Who action figures. Dapol Cyberman

In 2002 Product Enterprises released their talking Cyberman and talking Cyberleader, these included a Cybermat and blaster weapon. They were heard to say "Emotion is a weakness", "Eradicate the Time Lord" and"Destroy Earth". These talking figures were re-released in 2006 with slight variations of colouring.

In 2005 Character Options released their first 5" Cyberman action figure. This was followed by two versions of the Cyber Controller; with white eyes and with blue eyes. The Cyber Leader 5" was released with the Dalek Battle Pack with Cyber Leader.

In 2007 Character Options updated the 5" Cyberman action figure with a gun arm detail.

Late 2007 saw the release of the Destroyed Cyberman

Damaged Cyberman

In the 12" range Character Options have released a 12" Cyberman figure with and without Cyber Blaster Gun accessory and also two versions of the 12" Cyber Controller (the second with improved visible brain detail).

Corgi currently also make a Cyberman figure as part of a set in die-cast metal.

Plastwood have now added a Cyberman figure to their Supermag range.

Please note that this is in no way an exhaustive list.
