What is a Cyberman?
Cybermen are cyborgs, or cybernetic organisms.
As a species, they are originally human in type; their home planet is Mondas. However they began a radical programme of artificial cybernetic implantation.
Ultimately, with little or no organic self remaining, the Cyberman is emotionless and machine-like, making them one of the Doctor's most dreaded and ruthless adversaries.
The first appearance of the Cybermen in Doctor Who was in The Tenth Planet in 1966, since when they have been a recurring theme. Cyberman was created by screenwriter Gerry Davis (1930-1991) and scientist Dr Christopher Pedler (1927-1981) former Head of Miscroscopy at the University of London.
